It's Within: Fruit of the Spirit six-week devotional journal cover by Anne Cartmell

This six-week devotional is a guided devotional journey through Scripture, journaling, and quiet contemplation.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Inspired by Galatians 5:22

  • Each moment, we make decisions.
When we long to improve our lives, we may not realize that the answer is often hidden in plain sight — within our own thinking.

This is where the Fruit of the Spirit enters. These nine qualities reflect the nature of God. When we begin to understand even a little of how they work together, something shifts. We adjust gently, almost incidentally, from within.

And then — often without knowing exactly when — we experience a moment of completeness. A peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances. A sense of love that isn’t personal, but steady and whole.

Even if this moment is fleeting, once we recognize it, we are forever changed. Over time, we begin to long for more of that clarity and calm.

    This difference is marked by:

    • peace

    • inner steadiness

    • responding rather than reacting

    • giving without being asked

    • caring for ourselves with the same grace we offer others

There is a way to nurture this awareness.
This six-week devotional is a quiet tool to help you find that path.

When you feel ready, I invite you to join me on this gentle journey through the Fruit of the Spirit.

  • I Wrote This Devotional for Myself First

I have been a lifelong student of the Bible, and this devotional began as notes I wrote for my own growth. As I prayed with Galatians 5:22–23, something unexpected happened — I changed.

Simply contemplating the meaning of each fruit, and putting even a little of it into practice, brought a quiet shift. I wasn’t striving. I simply began to notice God’s presence more clearly.

As I studied, I took notes.
As a technical artist, I created a family of icons to reflect what I was seeing and feeling.
Some days I had more time than others, and this naturally shaped the daily rhythm:

    • Step In

    • Go Deeper

    • Walk With

    • Abide

Soon, I found myself assigning a fruit to each day. Gradually, a pattern formed — a pattern that mirrored spiritual growth itself.

Once the structure emerged, my background in story arc took over. What unfolded was a six-week progression:

    Discovery → Awakening → Deepening → Rooting → Gentle Rhythm → Returning

I followed this rhythm every six weeks. It continued to work.

And eventually, I realized I had to share it.

    I’m grateful you’re here.
When you feel ready to explore the Fruit of the Spirit more deeply, come without caution.

    With Grace,
    Anne

  • “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
    — Galatians 5:22–23, Berean Standard Bible (BSB)

This simple verse reveals a profound truth:
the qualities of God are already within us.

When we connect with these qualities — even in small ways — we soften. We adjust gently from within. Over time, our awareness deepens, and life begins to feel different:

    • calmer

    • clearer

    • steadier

    • more loving

This devotional is designed to help nurture that awareness. When you are ready, I invite you to join me on the journey of the Fruit of the Spirit.
